Myself

Firstly and briefly, the personal bit: I am a single mum with four children aged between ten and 20, we live on a farm in Somerset and I have been a writer for seven years, having given up 'normal' jobs in order to fulfil my writing ambitions, a career move which has made me eternally poor but happy.

My articles are written to provide an informed viewpoint, though I will always try to play Devil's Advocate as I'm personally more interested in an alternative perspective.

Writing finally became my career seven years ago when I started as a freelance for a group of local newspapers which offered a fairly meagre pay rate, but the promise of several bylines every week was just too good an opportunity to miss. Since then, I have written many front page stories, middle page features, columns, and everything in between. I have interviewed Peter Andre, Jason Donovan and Midge Ure, but have found the most interesting and inspirational people are those who live quietly within our communities going about their every day lives.

I prefer writing features and have researched and written on a variety of subjects including the effects of cadnium in an old mining community, epilepsy (my youngest daughter has epilepsy and ADHD), the strange things found by potholers, and tractor rallies.

My articles have been published in several local newspapers, the West Country Sunday Independent, a national farming magazine and a small piece in the Daily Mail. I have also written a regular column on the ups and downs of country living.

More recently I have also been working on a novel and in the process I have become an expert on rejection slips, but the lifelong desire to see my work in print has kept me going. My first novel, Killing Laura, is now available as an ebook on Kindle.

The old adage that you should write what you know is one I employ in my articles. I never write about something I have no experience of or without first researching it thoroughly, so I do tend to write mainly about subjects which are directly linked to children, particularly education and parenthood.
